Limepark Cairn

At Limepark - just outside the village on the Ballymena Road, you will find a cairn erected to commemorate the 7th World Ploughing Contest held here on October 8/9th,1959. The cairn contains individually engraved stones from all the countries that took part in the contest and is crowned by a replica of the golden plough trophy. Countries represented here are - Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Finland, Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, United States, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Australia and Austria. The winner of the 1959 contest was Lawrence McMillen from Northern Ireland and the runner up, Charles Bonney from Canada.  Limepark is a classical Georgian House and Farmyard which has been meticulously restored by its present owners to become the setting for Limepark Arts Centre and Cottages. The four cottage now available for booking, retain the characteristics of their period and are to me the most creative, interesting and well finished accommodation I have seen in North Antrim. Close by is Gracehill Golf Course set in the grounds of another Georgian House which is situated just off the Ballinlea Road at the junction with Bregagh Road. The golf course was designed and established in 1991,  this championship 18 hole golf course has received much acclaim, it is varied and challenging offering woodland, heath and water hazards in an idyllic, mature parkland setting. Bregagh Road is well worth a visit - a beautiful tree lined country lane where silver grey branches of mature elms entwine with their canopies to form a natural archway which is very memorable and inspiring to see, known locally as the Dark Hedges.
